As devastating wildfires continue to burn across Los Angeles, healthcare companies have stepped up to help affected residents and employees. The fires have claimed at least 24 lives, with dozens still missing.

Healthcare Services in Action

Sesame, a healthcare platform offering cash-price appointments for uninsured patients or those on high-deductible plans, is providing several services for free to residents impacted by the wildfires. These include $0 telehealth visits, prescription refill appointments, and online therapy sessions. While the telehealth visits can address urgent or routine care needs, they do not include labs, controlled substance prescriptions, or worker’s compensation documentation. Fire

“We’re eager to step in and address urgent needs, especially for Californians who’ve lost essential medications or require emergency refills,” said Michael DiLorenzo, chief marketing officer of Sesame.

Prescription savings platform GoodRx is also offering free virtual visits to those affected. Residents can use the code LA-GOODRX-CARE to access care for various conditions and obtain prescription refills. Co-founder Doug Hirsch emphasized the importance of ensuring displaced individuals can manage their health, saying, “We want everyone affected by these fires to get the care they need, including emergency medication refills.”

Meanwhile, Teladoc Health is providing free telehealth services and non-narcotic prescription refills for wildfire victims, first responders, and Southern California residents. Common conditions treated include respiratory infections, allergies, and chronic illness flare-ups caused by poor air quality.

Community Health Support

Federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) like AltaMed Health Services are playing a critical role in relief efforts. After the Eaton Fire destroyed its Pasadena primary care clinic, AltaMed launched a relief fund to assist displaced employees and patients. Sharlene Risdon Jackson, VP for foundation development at AltaMed, urged donations, stating, “We’re calling on the community to help stabilize our patients and neighbors during this tragedy.”

Additionally, the National Association of Community Health Centers is partnering with Direct Relief and other organizations to distribute essential medical aid, including N95 respirators, prescription medicines, and vaccines, to impacted communities.

Health Plans Offering Flexibility

L.A. Care Health Plan, a publicly operated health plan, has relaxed restrictions to support members. Patients can fill prescriptions early, use out-of-network pharmacies, and make adjustments to medical transportation services as needed.
